2017 Ivey Awards Return to State Theatre
On Monday, September 25th, the State Theatre will once again present the Ivey Awards. Established in 2004, the Ivey Awards celebrate Twin Cities professional theater with festivities for all – those in theater and the audience – who love Twin Cities’ theater.
The evening is more than a presentation of awards. It is an evening of entertainment provided by the local theater community. Additionally, nationally and locally-known presenters and hosts round out an evening of fun and celebration.
If you’re looking for the nominees to this year’s awards, don’t waste your time. The City Pages recap of the 2016 awards states,
“There are no nominees at the Iveys. The awards are just named and handed out, which some see as gratuitous Minnesota Nice, but certainly serves to speed things along, and leaves many honorees conspicuously surprised.”
The article summarized the winners and the show in general, ending with:
“The Iveys may be self-congratulatory, but they’re also a crucial opportunity to salute the unsung — because let’s be honest, they’re all relatively unsung — heroes of the local theater scene. Monday night’s winners accepted their megaphone-shaped prizes with the grace and humility exemplified by Royce, who took his award and admitted, ‘I know this has no cash value.’”
The show begins at 7:30 pm, and tickets are $44 to $150. Nearby downtown Minneapolis parking is just $6 at the Park and Shop ramps. The discount is valid after 4 pm Monday – Saturday and all day Sundays.
