A Very Special Evening with Brian Wilson
It’s the 50th anniversary of the Beach Boys’ album Pet Sounds, and Brian Wilson is doing a world tour to celebrate. This special night of memories and tribute will be on Sunday, October 2nd at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Minneapolis. The show starts at 7:30 pm, and tickets are $63 – $129. Downtown parking is available for just $6 all day at the Park and Ship ramps nearby.
Pet Sounds came out in 1966 and was inspired by The Beatles’ Rubber Soul. Wilson wanted to break out of the commercial surf pop the Beach Boys had been known for, and he ended up with a deeply personal album that has been hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time. It is listed at number two in Rolling Stones’ 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. After its release, The Beatles echoed the album’s animal noises on Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, indicating that Pet Noises inspired the masterpiece, bringing the influence full circle.
Wilson will be joined by former bandmates Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin. The show will include the entire album Pet Sounds along with other hits and favorites from his 54 years as an artist, both with the Beach Boys and as a solo artist. There are VIP tickets available online through the State Theatre Box Office.
