Anyone who ate in downtown Minneapolis in the 1980s may remember Charlie’s Café Exceptionale. Locals consider it to be legendary, and it is where the Charlie Awards got its name. This annual event celebrates the extraordinary contributions of the Twin Cities restaurant, food and beverage industry. The awards recognize organizations, businesses, and individuals that bring diversity, creativity, and a vibrant economy to the area. Award categories include:

  • Outstanding Service
  • Outstanding Restaurateur
  • Outstanding Restaurant
  • Outstanding Baker/Pastry Chef
  • Outstanding Chef
  • Rising Star
  • Beverage Innovator
  • Outstanding Bartender
  • Best Brewery
  • Entertainment Restaurant Venue
  • Outstanding Caterer
  • Hidden Gem
  • Community Hero

According to

“This is our chance to celebrate both the diversity in the Twin Cities restaurant community as well as its excellence. And at the same time support the good work being done by Open Arms, a nonprofit meal delivery service that prepares and delivers nutritious meals to people fighting life-threatening diseases. Proceeds from the awards program Afterparty and VIP dinner go towards Open Arms’ mission.”

The Hennepin Theatre Trust describes what you get for your entry fee: “Included in the price of your ticket is the awards show and afterparty at Seven Steakhouse, with inventive food stations, prizes, networking and a cash bar.”

For those who want to experience all this has to offer, the event is Sunday, January 27th at 3:30 p.m. at the Pantages Theatre. Tickets are $30. Nearby parking is available for only $6 at the Park and Shop ramps. The discounted price is in effect all day on Sundays.
