ESPN X Games Kickoff at First Avenue
You can expect musical performances on the Commons Stage during the three days of X Games Minneapolis, but the kickoff party is at First Avenue on Thursday, July 13th at 9 pm. That gives you enough time to hit the Harley Davidson flat-track competition at the Mall of America before you rock the night away downtown.
The performers for the kickoff party are Prof, Aesop Rock, and Rob Sonic.
Prof needs no introduction to hip hop fans in Minneapolis. For the last decade, he’s honed not only his musical talents through his three full-length albums, but also his stage presence. Prof is known for his diverse style of entertainment, and he’s amassed quite the following because of it.
No one has leveraged his station in life through rap better than Aesop Rock. Nearing age 40, he’s provided layers and depth to his work, from the sound to the subject matter. His work is featured in numerous video games, and Nike commissioned him for a 45-minute piece of music for runners.
Rob caught the attention of critics in 2000 as the front man of the group Sonic Sum. SPIN magazine voted their album The Sanity Annex the “2nd Best Album of the Year that No One Heard.” It opened the doors for collaborations abound with many well-known artists.
Tickets for the Mainroom show are $25. First Avenue does have a pay lot, but you can save on parking by using the Park and Shop ramps. They only charge $6 after 4 pm and are close enough to walk to safely.
