Ira Glass: Reinvented Radio in Minneapolis Again!
You probably recognize Ira Glass from his National Public Radio show “This American Life.” The weekly hour-long variety program is broadcast on over 500 radio stations, attracting well over one million listeners. The American Journalism Review professed that the show is “at the vanguard of a journalistic revolution.”
“This American Life,” in both its forms, has acquired numerous awards and accolades. It has won the highest honors for broadcasting and journalistic excellence, which includes five Peabody awards. The Showtime television adaptation won three Emmy awards, including Outstanding Nonfiction Series.
In his live performance of Reinventing Radio, Glass discusses the program, how it’s put together, components of a compelling story, and how he finds his inspiration. It is a combination of narration, and pre-recorded music and quotes to recreate the sound of the popular show. He also plays and discusses memorable and funny moments from “This American Life.”
Ira Glass: Seven Things I’ve Learned will be at the State Theatre on Saturday, May 11th at 8 pm. Tickets are $24 – $53.50. Parking is just $6 at both nearby Park and Shop ramps. The discount is valid after 4 pm Monday – Saturday and all day Sundays. The ramps are very close to many venues and other downtown Minneapolis nightlife.
