Looking for More Davina after the State Fair?
Even if you simply keep an eye on the Dakota Jazz Club’s calendar, you’ll recognize the name Davina and the Vagabonds. This band has expanded its high demand from 300 Twin Cities shows a year to a full time US and international schedule. But they return to the Dakota again and again.
This year, the group also visited the State Fair thanks to 89.3 The Current. If you like what you heard, good news: you can get your fill again at the Dakota in October.
Noted in Adam Kennedy’s natinalrockreview.com’s article, “Davina and the Vagabonds at the Sage Gateshead in Gateshead, UK:”
“Davina and the Vagabonds have firmly established themselves as a live hit on the international touring circuit. The group have captured some of that live magic on their recent concert record Nicollet and Tenth, which was released earlier this year. The album affectionally takes its name from the location of the band’s beloved hometown jazz club the Dakota.”
The lead, Davina Sowers, is known for her personality, stage presence, and stepping outside the standard blues-rock formula. She connects well with her audience and is the perfect injection of emotion when needed. The aforementioned article was written about a show performed in the UK, and,
“Almost 24 hours since the tragic terror attack in Manchester, both the band and the concert goers in attendance arrive at the show this evening carrying a heavy heart.”
The band was well received:
“Throughout the course of the Davina and the Vagabond’s 90-minute set, the room is filled with love, feverish dancing, music, laughter and a few tears too, and that is definitely what the world needed on this sombre day.”
