Plan your Valentine’s Day Right
It comes every year. What is arguably the most romantic day on the calendar is also the most hated. Whichever side of the coin you’re on personally, if you’re reading this, you’re likely on the hook to find something great.
And probably not too expensive. We’ve got your back.
First up: puppies
Yep, the Meet Minneapolis Visitor Center on Nicollet has puppies you can cuddle with from 11 am – 4 pm on Valentine’s Day. $5 gets you 3 minutes of cuddling. All donations go to the Midwest Animal Shelter. Just be sure not to arrive at the very end expecting to get time with a puppy. It’s a popular event.
Next up: let’s eat
Nowhere, and I mean NOWHERE will you find a reservable table in the Twin Cities that won’t cost a pretty penny. If you don’t want to shell out the cash for dinner on V-Day, you best refine your own cooking skills. BUT if you drive yourself, and you find parking for under $10, you can at least enjoy a great meal downtown without the slap in the face of the Uber or parking fees. The Park and Shop ramps only cost $6 after 4 pm and are within walking distance of a ton of restaurants and eateries.
Here are some delicious ones that are honoring V-Day with something special:
According to this site: “Nothing says “I love you” like beer. Join HopCat in downtown Minneapolis for an exquisite dining experience featuring Insight Brewing. This dinner will include four courses expertly paired with five Insight beers including a Barrel Aged Imperial Stout brewed exclusively for HopCat.”
Fogo de chao
If you eat meat, you’re familiar with Fogo. According to this site, if you dine with Fogo on Feb 14, you’ll get a complimentary dining card for your next visit.
This French American restaurant is a great find downtown. Fhima’s says “This Valentines Day we will be offering a limited version of our current menu along with a few specials to commemorate the day!”
Mercy Bar & Dining Room
Offering comfort food, Mercy’s is another pretty new spot that puts a nifty spin on dining. They say:
“We will have specials made for 2 from Wed to Saturday, as well as some of the best deals on Champagne you can find!”
In case this sparks your interest as much as it did mine, here’s more about Mercy from its website:
“Mercy Bar and Dining Room is a new concept in downtown Minneapolis featuring modern American comfort food. We have created a space that is fun, inviting and above all else, comfortable. Chef Mike Rakun and his team bring you casual and delicious food. The menu is designed to please all the senses and desires one will have when dining out, utilizing only the highest quality ingredients. We have everything from delicious salads and sandwiches to seafood, steaks and oysters that are flown in daily. We also believe we have one of the best priced wine lists you can find, as we sell wine close to retail pricing!
Remember to check out our lower level Library Lounge for a cocktail or a game of chess. Mercy boasts a beautiful patio that is wrapped in ivy and other foliage. A great escape in the heart of downtown!
Rick Nelson, from the Star Tribune, named us Top 5 Burgers in Minneapolis!”
Just some good ole American food located downtown. According to its Open Table listing:
“Join us on February 14th, 15th or 16th for our special 2019 Valentine’s Day 3-course dinner. $60 per person before tax & gratuity.”
Whatever you choose, downtown Minneapolis is sure to delight. the discount at Park and Shop ramps is valid after 4 pm Monday – Saturday and all day Sunday.
